Fortified castle built in 1143, with an aesthetic pond of 7 500 m² and hosting many events
The fortified castle of Monceau-sur-Sambre built in 1143 welcomed Louis XIV in 1665, during his military campaign against the Queen of Spain. On 22 August 1914, it narrowly escaped the scorched earth policy conducted by the Germans. In 1977, it was restored by the City of Charleroi, the owner. The park (67 hectares), renamed in honour of the South African Neslon Mandela, has an attractive 7,500 m² lake and hosts numerous events: Music Festival, Heritage Days, Craftsmen's Castle, but also flea markets...
