This valley is the Swedish heart of Minnesota. It was here that the first immigrants from Sweden arrived on empty stomachs and with hearts full of hope. It is this poignant story, and ultimately quite common to the history of the United States, that we discover as we follow the St. Croix River. A visit to the Gammelgarden Museum, the discovery of the many surrounding farms and the Moberg Trail, named after the Swedish writer Vilhelm Moberg, who wrote the famous Emigrant Saga in the 1950s, give a good insight into this culture that is still alive today. You can go for a walk along the St. Croix River, a tributary of the Mississippi.
