Bonga, 103 km from Jimma, is home to a large population of displaced people from the distant Welo province, which suffers from all-too-frequent food shortages. The massive population displacement programs initiated under the Derg regime continue today as a (contested) alternative to combat famine. Bonga's main attraction lies in the many coffee plantations in the surrounding area. A coffee museum opened in 2015. From Bonga, it's possible to visit the rainforest within the Kafa Biosphere Reserve.
