Chebera Churchura National Park, created in 2005, is located 133 km from Jimma at an altitude of almost 1,800 m. It is crossed by the Zigna River, a tributary of the Omo River, and features lakes and waterfalls, including a hot spring. It covers 12 hectares and is home to around a thousand elephants - the reason for its creation - under the watchful eye of rangers who protect them and enjoy its tropical vegetation. The park is also home to some 37 species of mammal, including buffalo, greater kudu, waterbuck, hippo, warthog, leopard, serval, a few lions and almost 230 species of bird. There is a lodge in the park.
