This village, 2 km west of Bahar Dar, is renowned for its production of tankwas, papyrus boats made by the lake's fishermen over thousands of years. Here you can see how these frail, ephemeral boats, so characteristic of Lake Tana, are made. The women of the village also produce a wide range of basketry items for you to take home. If you've got time to explore the area, we'd advise you to take this short excursion, especially on a bicycle, as it's close by and can be hired all over Bahar Dar for 5 birr an hour or 30-50 birr a day. You can also go by tuk-tuk.
