Opened in August 1973, this 1 570 km ² park, probably the most isolated of Kenya, was created to protect a fairly rich fauna: hyenas, lions, leopards, cheetahs, zebras zebras, oryx, small koudous… The site is also inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also here that the largest number of crocodiles in the world is concentrated. Known for their impressive size (the largest after the crocodiles of Australia), they are clustered in that part of the lake. But the Sibiloi National Park owes its international reputation to its famous prehistoric site of Koobi Fora. In 1968, Richard Leakey found a fossilized skull dating back several million years. Since then, other remains have been discovered there. The park is very difficult to access since Noth Horr, to the point that most visitors come by plane or boat from the Gulf of Ferguson on the other shore.
