Lodwar is a big lively village, lost in the middle of the desert. The city, hot and dusty, is an obligatory crossing point on the Turkana road. Unfortunately, it is not a very pleasant stopover and there is not much to see in the area. The many small, inexpensive hotels in the city centre should be avoided if possible and local mosquitoes will not forget you if you do not have a net. It is better to head directly to the shores of Lake Turkana. However, the city has developed well in recent years and some new structures of a higher standard have emerged.
