The track leading to Ghersegio (20 km from Karat) is enchanting. The village is less famous for its traditional architecture than for its panoramic views. Gullying and erosion have created a veritable gorge 80 m deep, with steep, jagged sides. These spectacular and unusual concretions were compared by one of the first tourists, who was American, to a forest of buildings, which is why they are now known as New York! The spectacle is well worth seeing, as is the Konso myth about the origin of this geological curiosity, which has a very special meaning for them.
