Built in 1804 and remodelled in 1867 in its present form, it is the oldest large temple in Taiwan dedicated to the god of war, Kuan Kung, whose bellicose statue sits at the entrance to the holy place. Its visit is really worth the detour, since this temple is still frequented today by many pilgrims who can even stay in a hospice reserved for them. The architecture is quite classical, but the care taken with the gold-covered decorations of the central sanctuary is simply remarkable.
