The tasting cellar of the Cave de Hunawihr presents beautiful vintages from a vast mosaic of terroirs and recently adorned with new labels. They are regularly acclaimed by professionals. Located at the foot of the fortified church of Hunawihr for three generations, the Mittnacht family has been making wines of beautiful expression. Since 1995, Paul Mittnacht's grandsons have been running the family estate with respect for the environment and its terroir. Graduates in oenology, the two cousins have been working in their field since 1999 in organic farming certified by Ecocert (organic) and Demeter (biodynamic). This is to give their vines the means to defend themselves naturally without fertilizers, insecticides or weed killers, but rather thanks to specific preparations: nettle tea, horn silica, horsetail decoction... Rich in terroirs and grands crus, the Domaine Mittnacht Frères extends over 23 hectares mainly concentrated in the commune of Hunawihr. During your visit, you will be able to taste, in an undoubtedly passionate atmosphere, a Riesling Esprit Libre 2018 (1st natural vintage of the estate), a Sylvaner Vieilles Vignes 2017 (supple and vegetal), a Riesling Grand Cru Rosacker 2015 (fresh and mineral) or a Crémant d'Alsace Rosé Brut with delicious red fruit aromas. And then, a big favourite for the Gentil 2018 from the Cuvée Copains-Copines: this blend of Alsace grape varieties is specially designed to accompany fish-based preparations and more particularly sushi! A small wink to Christophe Mittnacht's wife who is of Japanese origin. The entire range of Domaine Mittnacht Frères wines is adorned with new, absolutely superb labels. Good to know: the estate offers you an ecological gîte (4-6 people) with a deliciously zen decoration.
