HOLY HILL (SVATÝ KOPEČEK)

The "Holy Hill" is a very appropriate name for this place, as it is the most popular pilgrimage place in Moravia, very close to Olomouc. Between 1669 and 1679, a small chapel, destroyed by the Swedes, was replaced by a large pilgrimage center dedicated to the Visitation of the Virgin Mary. Pilgrims come here to worship in front of a painting of the Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus reaching out for the fruit of the Eden tree in the mother's palm.
