Bakersfield belongs to Pecos County. This ghost town was built as a result of the Texas oil boom of the 1930s. Only one year after the first wells were installed, the town already had a thousand souls. But the aftermath of the Great Depression hit the town and the main oil company was shut down. In the early 1940s, only about 100 people still lived there. Today, there are only about 20 people left, but they are hard to find... Moreover, the community is located almost halfway between El Paso and San Antonio, nearly 275 miles from each.
