Bamaga is Australia's northernmost town, the most northerly town in Queensland. Located 61 km north of the Jardine River and nearly 1,000 km north of Cairns, Bamaga attracts adventurous tourists who are willing to travel on the unpaved roads of the region: beware that the road is often impassable during the rainy season (in summer) and that it is imperative to have a 4WD vehicle. Getting there is an adventure in itself! The 1,200 inhabitants of Bamaga are mostly Torres Strait or mainland Aborigines. Facilities are limited and supplies are often flown in.
