The staff at Sandafell went above and beyond for us during our stay.

We had a major delay the day of our check in and weren't able to arrive until 2330. Around 2100, as we were coming over the mountain pass, we got a call from the staff to make sure we were ok and still on our way to check in.

They made sure that we got in to our room safely and even kept the breakfast station open a little bit later for us before we had to leave in the morning.

Wir haben im „Restaurant“ zu Abend gegessen, das Buffet bestand aus einer Suppe, Nudeln und ein paar Fischresten, das Ganze im tristen Resopalambiente mit ausgebleichten Plastikpflanzen, und am Ende standen 150 Euro auf der Rechnung (für jeden Teller Suppe wurden zum Beispiel 15 Euro aufgerufen). „Hotel Sandafell“ hat sich bei uns zum Running Gag für absolute Unverschämtheit entwickelt. Die Fish & Chips an der Tankstelle hingegen kann ich sehr empfehlen.

A super location in the north-west, with beautiful scenery and wonderful wildlife. It's a remote area to reach, but the journey is worthwhile. The hotel provides basic accommodation - the pricing reflects this but was less good value than other accommodation we used. Evening meals were available, usually with a couple of menu options, with the alternative being a 40-minute car journey to Isafjordur. Staff were helpful with all speaking good English.

We started our morning from Drangsnes, checked in here after lunch in Isafjordur. Kind of deserted, but I guess around 50 people live here in Thingeyri. Nothing to do there literally. Just take some rest and be back on the road next morning. Good place to see the Northern Lights. But we weren't lucky. Breakfast is standard in 95% of the places in Iceland. So no further remarks there. It's fine for what it is.

I think I have some mixed feelings about the place even though it actually was a decent place to stay for the night. The room was comfortable, the heating system as in any other location in Iceland was very quick to warm the place up. There was an old radio in the room???? buuuuut i think i'd rather have a kettle, which we didn't have even in the common area. That's where it gets complicated because when we asked the reception, they lent us their one and only kettle and it served us well enough. In the morning it was already back in use for the breakfast buffet. But I think having a kettle in the room is an essential, it felt empty without it.
The common area on the first floor was a bit chilly but comfortable. The bathroom was shared with another room, but it was very clean. Maybe just a bit too cold for my taste.
The breakfast was included, and it wasn't bad, but I had read some reviews that said they had fish and several jams as well. Unfortunately we haven't seen any of that, but I guess it's a seasonal thing and we are kind of late for everything???? so maybe next time.

Good for one night

Posizione ottima, hotel semplice e un po' vecchiotto. Offre una cena a buffet fino alle h 21 e attenzione a non arrivare 1 minuto dopo. Noi ad agosto siamo arrivati all'hotel per il check-in alle 21.15 e abbiamo scoperto che a quel punto non avremmo potuto cenare, la cameriera vedendoci in difficoltà (calcolando che l'unico altro ristorante nel villaggio era già chiuso) ci ha comunque messo a disposizione la zuppa del giorno.
Camera semplice con bagno piccolo ma funzionale, peccato solo che non c'è il phon per i capelli, né nelle camere con bagno privato, né nei bagni in comune (con 4° d'estate non è molto piacevole dormire con i capelli bagnati).

Pasamos una noche en este hotel durante nuestra ruta por los Westfjords. Lo escogimos principalmente por el precio y porque quedaba más o menos cuadrado dentro de nuestra ruta. Pagamos 99€ por una habitación doble con baño compartido y desayuno incluido.

El precio y la ubicación son lo menos que tienen.
La habitación en si está bien y limpia. Cama grande y cómoda, te dan un juego de tres toallas y es bastante espaciosa. Tiene TV que no funciona, intentamos sintonizar algo pero no encontraba nada. Para nosotros no tiene importancia, pero si algo no funciona, quítalo. Además, la tienen colocada encima de la puerta de entrada, un poco sin sentido.

La habitación que nos dieron, la número 2, estaba en el primer piso justo donde se encuentra una zona común para los huéspedes del hotel. Nos enteramos de toooooda la conversación que tenían un grupo de americanos mal educados que estaban viendo la TV y bebiendo allí. A esto súmale que la insonorización de la habitaciones es pésima. Otro detalle es que, si es una guesthouse, y no tienes cocina para huéspedes, en la zona común debería haber un microondas o un kettle para comer en la mesa que hay si traes tu propia comida o, por lo menos, tener un kettle en la habitación.

Te dicen que el baño es semiprivado porque lo compartes solamente con la habitación 3. Eso es una verdad a medias. El cuarto de baño está fuera de la habitación, en otra puerta dentro de la sala común y no tiene llave, por lo que todos los americanos lo utilizaron mientras estaban allí berreando. A es

El desayuno, si bien no es super variado, es suficiente. Tiene un poco de dulce y un poco de salado, nada caliente. Creemos que por el precio es suficiente.

I stayed there in July very nice staff and a good dinner buffet with some local food. The room was though like medium but clean :).
