Travel Guide Tawarayama Onsen

With a history of over 1,000 years, dating back to the Edo period, Tawarayama Onsen is a nice little getaway. This spa town is nestled in a beautiful valley near Mount Ichiigatake in southern Nagato. Admittedly, the destination is a bit off the beaten track, but that's what allows it to offer a peaceful setting, far from mass tourism. A certain Japan of yesteryear awaits you. Along the waterfront, there are several small inns waiting for you. From Asa Shinkansen station, take the JR Mine line to Nagato Yumoto (one hour). Then take the Sanden bus from Nagato Yumoto to Tawarayama Onsen (20 minutes).
