Shimonoseki unfortunately has the reputation of a city that one passes through, without stopping. It is true that it is, above all, a place of embarkation to Kyūshū or Korea. Located at the tip of Honshū, the city is now populated by 270,000 people, and controls the Kanmon Strait, giving access to the Sea of Japan. Similarly, it is the Kanmon Bridge that allows cars to access the neighboring island. Shimonoseki has many assets, starting with its fish market (one of the most interesting in Japan - especially for fugu), its magnificent aquarium, and several historical buildings of the highest order.
