BLUE LAKE
The lake is cobalt-blue from December to March, turning blue-gray from April to November.
Located in the crater of an extinct volcano at Mount Gambier, Lac Bleu covers some 70 hectares and reaches a depth of 72 meters. It supplies the town with its drinking water. Every year in November, its waters turn from blue-gray to a brilliant cobalt-blue until February, before reverting to blue-gray in March. This phenomenon is thought to be due to the warming of the surface layers in summer, resulting in the formation of microcrystals that scatter blue light. A 3.6 km panoramic road encircles the lake, offering several viewpoints.
