HERMANNSBURG
Aboriginal community south of Alice Springs to discover the former German Lutheran mission and the work of Albert Namatjira.
Ntaria is the real name of Hermansburg, an Aboriginal community of 600 inhabitants in the heart of the West Macs. It was the site of the former German Lutheran mission, founded in 1877 and operating until 1982. It was here that the famous painter Albert Namatjira learned the art of watercolor. He painted his lands from memory and was the first Aboriginal to receive Australian citizenship. What to see Hermansburg Potters (call them before at 0889567414), a unique concept in Aboriginal art.
Ntaria campground is a basic but easily accessible campsite.
