Combe Lavaux-Jean Roland : Gevrey-Chambertin between nature and minerality.
Before embarking on a nature hike at the Combe Lavaux, we strongly recommend that you visit the Halle Chambertin. A presentation of the site as well as topo-guides for hikers and climbers are available there. Within the Natura 2000 network, which extends over 2100 ha, the Dijon Coast conceals an exceptional ecological diversity. This reserve extends from the communes of Brochon to Gevrey-Chambertin, on 487 ha. It is to Jean Roland, a naturalist, that we owe the recognition in 2004 of the Combe Lavaux as a natural reserve of France. It is an old dried-up valley, a real open book on geological history, testifying to the presence of the sea in the Jurassic period. It is an ideal place for hiking and discovering a diversified fauna, where owls, frogs, roe deer and peregrine falcons populate its two slopes. The flora of the latter is just as diverse, southern in the south, alpine and continental in the north. It is on average 5°C cooler on the northern slope, which is shadier and more humid. A marshy zone shelters original species: tuberous valerian, rough cress, garlic-wildflower and speedwell. Don't miss the Bernard Quarteaux trail, for a 6 km hike, magnificent landscapes are revealed on the steep cliffs and the vineyard plain. Climbing is forbidden between mid-February and mid-June, because it is the nesting period of the peregrine falcon.
