This part of the Grampians Region extends over an arid agricultural area south of the Mallee Region and north of the Australian Cordillera. Wheat, sheep farming and grain silos create a monotonous landscape with atomized settlements. Horsham is the main town. This quiet, central Wimmera town had a population of around 20,000 at the 2021 census. The economy is based on wool and meat. The Overland express train from Melbourne to Adelaide stops here twice a week in each direction. Horsham town center is home to an art museum and a botanical garden, both of which are well worth a visit.
