Located on the outskirts of the village of Andreba on the shores of Lake Alaotra, this community tourism project has been initiated by the Madagascar Wildlife Conservation Association (MWC). The camp consists of typical houses Sihanaka. At present, four rooms and a camping area are available. Local meals are prepared within the camp.

Proposed activities. Tours in canoe at the aurores with local guides at MWC, in the marsh of Lake Alaotra. A discovery over the water that may allow you to see a species of endemic lémurien called Bandro (Hapalemur alaotrensis). The guides offer other excursions around the lake to discover the fauna (very rich avifauna around the lake) and local flora. The best period to observe wildlife stretches from December to April, at dusk and sunset when animals are most active.

Minimizing impact. To minimize the negative impacts on the ecosystem due to a high influx of tourists, the MWC association has put in place several rules: The traditional Maison house can only receive 8 tourists, for excursions a maximum of 2 canoes with a total of 4 tourists is allowed, excursions are limited in time to avoid disturbing the fauna in its natural habitat.

Local population. Camp Bandro is fully managed by the members of the association. Tourists are received by MWC Andreba Association composed only of members of the local community. The benefits of ecotourism activity are used to finance micro-projects within the village (drinking water, public toilets…).
