Fox Hill is one of the oldest villages in the Bahamas. Its inhabitants, commonly known as the Hillians Fox - named after Samuel Fox, a freed African slave who disposed of several acres of land in 1801 - celebrate Emancipation Day a week later than the rest of the archipelago. So if you're in New Providence on the second Monday in August, drop in. The heritage of African culture (slaves often arrived from the Congo and its surroundings) is present here more than in any other village, whether through music or painting, Africa is always present.
