GAITOR KI CHHATRIYAN
Funerary monuments erected on the cremation grounds of maharajas, giving the impression of strolling through small palaces
Far from the hustle and bustle of the Pink City, these cenotaphs offer a restful stopover. Imposing funerary monuments in white marble or ochre sandstone were built on the cremation grounds of the maharajas. The columned halls, topped by a majestic dome, form an astonishing ensemble. Some are adorned with sculptures of apsaras or musicians. The most impressive is that of Jai Singh II, with its 20 sculpted columns. The place is not morbid. It's more like wandering through miniature palaces.
