Penobscot Building, built in 1928 in the Art Deco style, is a superb achievement of architect Wirt C. Rowland.
Built in 1928 in the Art Deco style, the Penobscot Building is a superb work by architect Wirt C. Rowland. At 173 metres and 47 stories high, it had many records at the time, including being the 8th tallest building in the world and the tallest in Michigan. It has a granite base while the rest of the building is made of Indiana limestone. In the evening, the top floors are illuminated and topped by a tower with a red ball at the top that makes it one of the most recognizable buildings in the city centre
