Andrey Douthard and his cohorts founded Paramita Sound in 2014 in the up-and-coming West Village neighborhood. Now based downtown, the place remains one of Detroit's most underground record shops. It's mainly vinyl, including several Detroit labels. The house specialty is hip-hop, but there's also a varied selection ranging from African music to electro and indie rock. Bonus: the place hosts a bar and organizes all kinds of parties (DJ sets, rap karaoke, etc.).
