The Nangbeto hydroelectric dam is about 45 minutes'drive from Atakpamé by car or motorbike. The site can take a detour if there is a walk on the other side of the dam, towards villages on the border of Benin.

Plus d'hippopotames!

Il faut suivre une piste de terre de 45 km pour arriver à un village fantôme, un petit barrage et ne plus voir d'hippopotames. Nous déconseillons donc fortement cette visite!

More spent hippos in February 2014… or we 3 days to put back.
Beautiful view from the dam.
Village without much interest, Le Mono Hotel with swimming pool, very large hearth-bar with an outdoor terrace and meeting room, but very empty when we visited.

Unfortunately, there is no hippopotamus ...... However, a ride in the canoeing on the lake is worth the trip. The visit of the dam is also nice!

It is true that it is necessary to want to go to Nangbeto but the game is worth candles. Just off the dam, around 9:30, we saw 5 or 6 hippopotamuses grazed quietly on the bank. 10 minutes later low back in the water!
