Guided tour of a remarkable forest of petrified trees estimated to be 250 million years old, in Twyfelfontein.
On runway C39, west of Khorixas, a sign indicates the entrance to the site. You park your vehicle there and pay the entrance fee. Local guides offer their services and it is customary to reward them after the short visit (about 30 minutes). About fifty petrified tree trunks litter the paths scattered with large geometrically shaped pebbles on which rare bushes survive in the middle of the Welwitschia. Estimated to be 250 million years old, these petrified tree trunks still reveal the details of their bark.

Site très intéressant (certains arbres sont de taille impressionnantes) mais qui nécessite une mise en garde, surtout si l'on arrive Twyfelfontein. Des petits malins ont ouvert des sites concurrents et font payer autant que le site classé pour pas grand chose à voir. On a failli se faire berner mais j'avais un doute et en demandant à des visiteurs qui sortaient nous avons compris la supercherie. Ces sites sont principalement situés sur le côté sud de la route C39, alors que le site principal avec un gros bâtiment en pierre est situé au nord de celle-ci.
