One of the four largest sites in northern Petén, with structures up to 50 metres high and a large pelota court.
It is one of the four largest sites in the north of the Petén. Some structures reach 50 meters high - like the complex La Isla, called "Catzin" - it presents a monumental architecture dating from the preclassic period, similar to that of the Mirador. Like the vast majority of Mayan sites, El Tintal has been plundered in the last century. Nevertheless, it is still possible to see the largest pelota court in the Petén. On the other hand, although its existence has been known for decades, it was not until 2004 that the excavations really began.
