A place of pilgrimage linked to the legend that one of the wives of Ali, the Prophet's son-in-law, came from this village. Hence the presence of the cenotaphs of her sons. The tomb of Al-Hussein ibn Ali, grandson of the Prophet Mohammed, who died during the Battle of Kerbala (680), is one of the holiest sites in Shiite Islam, and is located in Kerbala, Iran. The first mosque was built in 1246 to house these two long white tombs.
