San José de Buja is a small, peaceful village with 1 000 souls, usually farmers and ranchers. The first inhabitants were criollos, and then came the natives for the barter. They also settled there. This is why what was San José at the beginning transformed into San José de Buja to represent the Warao community. Bu means "mangrove" and Ja "owning", "having", however Buja in warao is used to define the suit of men and women waraos made up of moriche - tree of palm - or with fabric from the palm Du. At present this tradition tends to disappear with modern design. Every year, from 18 to 21 March, we celebrate the feast of the village which brings together the inhabitants, but also other communities that arrive by lanchas on the water waraos to celebrate properly, with great alcohol and music, the feast of San José de Buja. At this time it is difficult to find a roof.
