At 560 km northeast of Tahiti, Takapoto (short chin) is an oval atoll of 16 km long north of the archipelago near Takaroa, his twin brother. It was discovered simultaneously by Lemaire and Schouten. The atoll is devoid of pass, and it must be docked in whaling, small boat used to cross the reef when a wave occurs. The inhabitants of Takapoto would earn their income from perliculture, coprahculture and fishing. The Tuamotu second farm was installed in the 1960 s, after Manihi's; however, Sylvie and Tutu, the owners of the perlière farm of Hereatea, decided to close it in 2011: So there is no more perlière in Takapoto. It remains the coprah whose production is declining and fishing, which occupies the majority of the 501 inhabitants (census 2017).Fakatopatere, the main village, is located on the largest motu of the atoll, which also houses the airport. In Okukina, we can taste urchins and benitives. Finally, many archeological excavations have highlighted an unknown heritage: about twenty marae and at least 200 culture pools have been discovered.Takapoto is on the road of Aranui 5, the mixed cargo that serves the Marquises. The animation is at its height on the island!
