Located about ten kilometers from Takapoto, his twin brother, Takaroa is an atoll of 24 km long and 8 km wide. The navigator Bernard Moitessier was delighted: " I touched the formal perfection, "he said. Unlike Takapoto, the interior of the lagoon is accessible by boat by the Teauonae Pass, facing which the village of Teavaroa is located. The village occupies the entire surface of a small motu, where most houses are concentrated. Takaroa mainly lives from perliculture, renowned for its beads, tourism and incidentally coprahculture and fishing (more and more recently, due to the crisis of perliculture). However, the crisis in the pearl sector has led to a sharp fall in the population in recent years. The airport, at 2 km, is connected to Teavaroa by a bridge by car.The approximately 674 people in Takaroa (Census 2017) have the particularity of being a mormon confession, which explains that there is no alcohol except in pensions. On the spot, we can visit the two marae near the village, lost in the miki miki bushes, the wreck of a four-mast failed at the beginning of the century, and the traditional perliferous farms.
