Located on the south shore of the Rupert River, the community of Waskaganish is steeped in history and tradition. It was here that one of Canada's first fur trading posts (Hudson's Bay Company) was established, and its first community settled 350 years ago. A region renowned for its waterways, it is the scene of an annual traditional event where young Crees, guided by elders, form a "canoe brigade" to learn about the traditional Cree way of life. If you're an avid birdwatcher, the locality is one of North America's major bird migration routes.
