Situated on Lake Constance, an impressive body of water on the border between Germany, Switzerland and Austria, Altenrhein is a tranquil community. From an economic standpoint, the town has developed thanks to the establishment of a railway equipment manufacturer, Stadler Rail. The Alterhein Aviation Museum at St. Gallen airport is well worth a visit. But the highlight is undoubtedly the city's market hall, the Markthalle, a curiosity built in 2000 by the surrealist and non-conformist Austrian artist Hundertwasser. Make a detour to admire it!
