Fort built in 1827 when the boundary between Canadian and U.S. possessions had not yet been established in the region.
Birthplace of British Columbia in 1858. The fort was built in 1827 because the boundary between the possessions of Canada and the United States had not yet been established in this area (it would be in 1846 with the Oregon Treaty). The fort recreates what the Hudson's Bay Company used as a post and trading post for the Canadian West. Fur and salmon traders, explorers and gold seekers headed for the gold mines in the North.
