The National Park of American Samoa was established in 1988 to protect this island environment, both terrestrial and marine, typically Polynesian. This is the fiftieth American park. The park is divided into three areas: one on Tutuila itself; one on the Manu'a group islands; that of the islets Ofu and Olosega and that of the ta Ta'u (931 m). It covers 42 km 2, of which 10 km 2 of ocean and 20 km 2 on Tutuila, between the villages of Fagasa and Afono.In Tutuila, it contains the Col Pass and the Vallée valley tropical tropical forest which covers this mountain area (maximum altitude 491 m). The area is particularly rich in flora and fauna. Its symbol is the pteropus or flying fox, a kind of bat whose open wings can range up to 1,50 m, while weighing 500 g. There are also many species of tropical birds, including the ptilope coloured of La Perugia.The area is well equipped with marked hiking routes. For example, you can climb at the peak, Mount Alva.You can reach Ofu, Olosega and Ta'u by plane. These are small paradise islands, with tropical forest and pristine beaches.Its marine area includes important coral reefs. Among the rich marine fauna is sea turtles and humpback whales.
