STRONG REDOUBT

An imposing circular 60 metres in diameter built to protect the port of Harwich of the Napoleonic invasions. It could contain up to 300 troops in the event of a siege. Part of the fort now houses a small military museum where weapons are exposed and uniforms. During the summer there are shows representing scenes of battles, but the fort is also the theatre of various events. The site has been particularly well restored by the Harwich Society.
