Since the 13th century, the castle has been the residence of the lords of the region. Reworked several times, it was destroyed at the beginning of the 19th century during the Napoleonic Wars. The Count of Pállfy restored it entirely at the beginning of the 20th century, except for the bastion. In 1953, it was confiscated by the state and became a centre for scientists. Since the change of regime, it hosts receptions and congresses but remains open for visits in summer and on weekends.
