Tvrđava Zvečaj
This fortress, founded in the century, is now in ruins and difficult to access. It marks the entrance to the Tijesno canyon.
At an altitude of 270 m, this ruined fortress (Tvrđava Zvečaj/Тврђава Звечај) dominates the meander of the Vrbas river that marks the entrance to the Tijesno canyon (18 km south of Banja Luka). Founded in the 14th century, only a portion of the tower remains. In 1737, it was one of the main points of Ottoman resistance to the Austrian incursion on Banja Luka led by Joseph-Frédéric de Saxe-Hildburghausen. The fortress stands above several campsites and the starting point of the Zvečaj-Karanovac rafting course (5 km), which is illuminated at night.
