Near Chalkhangala, a site of archaeological excavations has provided vestiges of a habitat over 2 000 years old. Other research, carried out in the vicinity of the villages of Vermaziyar, Arbatan, Garahasanli, Babeki and Kosajan, discovered traces of ancient settlements of Kukular, Kohnakend, Kultapa and Kuluk. These sites, which are not very rich, will be of particular interest to archaeology lovers. Their access is not always easy and usually requires authorization, which can become a real administrative headache (to be resolved in Nakhchivan).
