Located 800 m from the sea, in a forest of baobabs and Didieréacées, at the exit of the village of Mangily, this reserve, which includes a botanical trail, an ornithological reserve and a centre for the conservation and protection of lemurs, covers 65 ha. The trail winds through the southern flora (each plant is identified by a booklet): Delonix, Pachypodium, multiples multiple baobabs - one, giant, 12,50 m of circumference! - Givotia… Accommodation is provided in two double bungalows, it can accommodate 10 to 12 people: four bedrooms on one side (one on the ground floor and three on the mezzanine), and five on the other bungalow (for students and researchers). Each room is equipped with a double bed and a single bed can be added. For the restoration, it is possible to order a meal in advance (imperative reservation). Here, water is heated to solar energy.Conservation and education. Managed by the Franco-Malagasy association Reniala, this ornithological reserve aims to protect local biodiversity, to raise awareness among tourists and the population of environmental problems: deforestation, species protection… Recently, Réniala has established a conservation and protection centre for lemurs seized by the Malagasy authorities. This is the only centre of this kind in the south-west of the country.Local population. This reserve generates jobs for villagers: about people work full-time and a team of masons, carpenters… ensure the different constructions and maintenance of the place in subcontracting.
