Located at the eastern end of Lake Bardawil, on the northern coast of the Sinai, the Zaranik reserve covers 250 square kilometres. It is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea. It is a major flyway for migratory birds. 244 species of birds have been recorded here, including pelicans, terns, griffins, Buteo hawks, golden eagles Aquila chryseatos, and falcons. There are also many reptiles, as well as dolphins and loggerhead turtles(Carreta carreta). Several remains have been found in the area, including fragments of pottery or the remains of a mosque dating from the Islamic conquest
