The Lobéké National Park, located in the south-eastern tip of Cameroon, 824 km from Yaoundé, was created in 2001 on an area of over 200,000 hectares, and boasts a large population of forest elephants and gorillas. Studies show the existence of 300 species of birds. Amphibians, fish and butterflies are also well represented. However, this entire ecosystem is threatened by poachers from neighbouring countries. Camp Kombo is the base camp of the Lobéké National Park. Apart from tourists, the people staying here are often scientists, researchers and even students, who have come to study the park's species.Camp Kombo is the only way to stay as close as possible to the park and its resources. This protected area is part of a joint conservation program involving Cameroon, Central Africa and Congo. The Parc de Lobéké is a birdwatcher's delight, with over 330 species of animal recorded in the region. Bird-watching excursions are possible, provided you avoid the main rivers (the Sangha and Ngoko) running through the southern part of the park, which serve as natural borders between Cameroon and CAR (Central African Republic). Please note that this part of the park, from Yokadoum onwards, is not recommended.
