This Fort Warwick, built by the Spaniards at the end of the 16th century, was used by the pirate Mannswelt, then by Henry Morgan
Built by the Spaniards at the end of the 16th century, this fort, of which only the cannons remain today, was used by the pirate Mannswelt and later by Henry Morgan. Upon returning from the sacking of Panama City in 1671, Morgan divided his booty among four of his men, giving each of them the mission of hiding it. Legend has it that he slit their throats one by one so that the secret would never be betrayed. Later, the French corsair Louis Aury seized Santa Catalina and searched in vain for the treasures brought back by Henry Morgan.
