FORTRESS

One of the main monuments of the capital of Andros is its famous fortress. It was built by Marinos Dandolos in the 13th century. The towers and casemates, as well as the coats of arms of the Venetian lords, were still in a good state of preservation until 1943. Unfortunately, it was largely destroyed by a bombing in 1943. However, what remains is the stone arcaded bridge that connected the fortress to the peninsula where the medieval town of Andros was located. It is a pity, today we can see its ruins.
