A small village with only a few stores in the 1970s, Embilipitiya has now become a large, noisy town of 58,500 inhabitants, which is located in the direct vicinity of Uda Walawe National Park (about 20 kilometers away) but also of the new infrastructures on the outskirts of Hambantota. Embilipitiya is 25 km from the Sooriyawewa International Cricket Stadium, built for the 2011 Cricket World Cup. However, the tourist does not stop here because the city has no real charm and no major attractions. Only the Centauria Hotel stands out among the available accommodations.
