More than an island, it is an archipelago 25 km north of the city of La Paz. It is a refuge for many species of birds and marine mammals, including sea wolves and dolphins. The whale shark, the largest known fish, can be seen in the area between August and February. Surrounded by a deep blue sea that turns turquoise as you approach the sandy coves, it is an ideal place for hiking, kayaking, diving and snorkeling. The island has been declared a protected natural area, but it is still possible to go there on organised excursions.
