LA MINA EL SEXMO

Opened in 1539, it is the oldest known gold mine in South America. The gold of Zaruma which abounded formerly, was moreover famous near the court of Spain and made spill much blood formerly. The mine of Sexmo, now exhausted, has been arranged to receive tourists. We lend you boots and a miner's helmet and the visit begins. The tour is flat, it is not a descent into the bowels of the earth, but you can imagine what life was like in the mine in past centuries.
