Plains is the birthplace of Jimmy Carter, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, who was, from 1977 to 1981, the 39 th President of the United States, and returned here seasonally, between his travels as a peace broker and his occupation for charitable causes. The Plains High School Visitor Center and Museum (in the former Jimmy Carter school), The Jimmy Carter Boyhood Farm (the farm farm), The Train Depot Museum (the railway depot that was the headquarters of its presidential campaign in 1976) can be visited. However, Jimmy Carter's private residence where he returns from time to time is not accessible.
