SANFORD STADIUM

For American football fans, the most important place in Athens is undeniably the Stanford Stadium, the "home" of the Bulldogs, the football team of Georgia University, which is often among the best in the nation. The stadium was inaugurated in 1929 with a memorable match against Yale and before 30 000 fans (15-0 for the Bulldogs). In the decades following, the stadium saw a number of extensions and renovations, bringing its current capacity to accommodate more than 92 700 places.
